Coalition for App Fairness Statement on Japan’s Smartphone Software Competition Promotion Act

TOKYO, JAPAN – Today, Rick VanMeter, executive director of The Coalition for App Fairness (CAF), released the following statement after the Japan Free Trade Commission (JFTC) announced the Cabinet approved the Smartphone Software Competition Promotion Act. The law will now be considered by The National Diet.

“We support the swift passage of the Smartphone Software Competition Promotion Act (SSCPA) which will give Japanese consumers a choice in how they download apps on their phone, make purchases inside apps, and level the playing field for Japanese developers. This critical bill will empower the JFTC to bring competition and innovation to the Japanese mobile app marketplace, while ensuring high standards of privacy and security.”
