Open Letter: Stop Apple’s Illegal App Store Fees Under DMA

Eight months after the European Commission found Apple’s terms to be illegal under the Digital Markets Act, the app ecosystem is still waiting for fair competition.

Today, the Coalition for App Fairness, alongside a broad spectrum of app developers, associations, and consumer organisations, has expressed grave concern over Apple’s persistent non-compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The letter argues that despite the Commission’s formal non-compliance decision against Apple in April 2025, the company’s proposed new terms continue to impose exorbitant and illegal commission fees on transactions that the DMA mandates should be free of charge. The signatories urge the Commission to take immediate, clear enforcement action to uphold the law and ensure a fair and competitive digital market for all.
