BRUSSELS – Today, Gene Burrus, Global Policy Counsel for the Coalition for App Fairness (CAF), issued the following statement on the European Commission’s decision to fine Apple for violating the Digital Markets Act. The Commission found Apple non-compliant for restricting developers from informing users about alternative purchasing options outside the App Store.
“Today’s decision affirms what governments around the world – including US courts – already recognize: Apple’s illegal conduct hurts consumers, global businesses and the economy. Apple must change their business terms so developers can give consumers choices and communicate directly with them, free of charge and interference. Apple’s non-compliance should no longer be a profitable business strategy.”
