BRUSSELS – Today, Gene Burrus, Global Policy Counsel for the Coalition for App Fairness (CAF), issued the following statement in response to Apple’s call to repeal the DMA:
“Apple’s latest broadside against the Digital Markets Act and the sovereignty of the European Union is nothing more than an attempt to preserve its gatekeeper power and intimidate regulators. Far from harming consumers, the DMA is designed to give them greater choice, lower costs, and fairer access to innovation. Apple is threatening to hold features hostage to scare the European Commission into not enforcing its law. What Apple isn’t saying is that they’ve already been forced by a US court to open its app store ecosystem and it hasn’t pulled products or features there. We urge the European Commission to respond firmly to Apple’s misleading claims and stand resolute, ensuring the law delivers on its promise rather than being weakened by Apple’s threats and scare tactics.”
