ROTTERDAM – Today, the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) announced it will now require Apple to allow dating apps to use the in-app payment system of their choice as of January 15, 2022.
“Today’s Rotterdam Court ruling confirms that the ACM was right to find that the obligation imposed by Apple on dating app developers to use its in-app payment system (IAP) breaches EU and Dutch competition law,” said Meghan DiMuzio, executive director of the Coalition for App Fairness. “This sends a strong and clear signal that dominant app stores can no longer exploit developers that depend on their platforms. Apple’s mandatory imposition of IAP hurts consumers, app developers, and entrepreneurs not only in the Netherlands but across Europe and globally. We strongly support the ACM’s decision and the wider European and global efforts to create a fair and competitive app economy that protects consumers and ensures all companies have the opportunity to innovate and grow.”
