WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the Coalition for App Fairness (CAF) announced X (formerly known as Twitter), is joining the coalition to ensure a fair, competitive, and open mobile app marketplace for all. The current state of the mobile app ecosystem is dominated by Apple and Google, and they use that power to harm consumers and developers with excessive costs and restrictions on innovation. X’s membership shows the growing momentum for reforms that lift the shackles on developers so they can better serve their users, like the hundreds of millions who use X.
“We believe in a digital future where competition thrives, innovation is rewarded, and users have ultimate control,” said Romina Khananisho, Head of Global Government Affairs, X. “Joining the Coalition for App Fairness is a testament to our commitment to dismantling monopolistic practices and building a mobile ecosystem that truly serves its users and fosters growth for all.”
“We are thrilled to welcome X to the coalition. The digital economy continues to grow, yet users and businesses on platforms like X are harmed by Apple and Google’s anticompetitive app store practices,” said Gene Burrus, Global Policy Counsel for the Coalition for App Fairness (CAF). “We look forward to working with X to create a more equitable app ecosystem and advocate for common-sense legislation globally that globally benefits consumers and companies alike.”
