CAF on CMA’s Provisional Market Status Designation for Apple and Google

London, UK — Today, the Coalition for App Fairness (CAF) released the following statement in response to the Competition and Markets Authority’s provisional designation of Apple and Google’s mobile ecosystems as having Strategic Market Status.

“Designating Apple and Google’s mobile ecosystems and working to allow developers to communicate are necessary steps, but after five years of investigations, deferring key reforms like alternative app stores and payments isn’t good enough. Without swift, enforceable rules, UK consumers and developers will remain captive to gatekeepers charging excessive fees. It’s time for decisive action to unlock real choice and fairer digital markets.”
